CV Update

Since I am now in my second year, there have been new changes since I last updated my CV which was last year. I had a summer job, and now currently volunteer as a graphic designer, although my boss have been busy for months so I wasn’t really actively involved since then.

I used Photoshop again to create my new CV, with a different theme. Since I wanted to show a bit of my side; I used yellow because it’s my favourite colour and used grey to create the colour combination so the CV wouldn’t look overpowering with yellow shades.

I researched for CV ideas so I can work out the layouts and designs that I really like before working on mine. I think I did well, and it looked so much better than last year’s version. However, I’m not sure if there’d be some people who wouldn’t like my design because I used the grey shades, making it look boring but then I thought it would go with yellow shades to tone down.

The creative idea of this CV was inspired by a CV that I google image searched. I liked the colour combination because yellow is my favourite colour and the design style is very much similar like mine.

Creating Titles

We needed some title art for the mock websites and social media, so this was my job to get the titles done and set up on the website.

Using the same font and layout from the title animation, I created simple titles; black background with white font. I briefly saw the mock website the other day and the background was also black-ish, except it played the video we created in the background so it would make sense that the background of the title to be black so it fits in the theme of the website.

I used Photoshop to create these titles. Although, they do look too simple but I need to discuss with my team for their feedback on my art and possibly talk about any new changes, perhaps more work on the titles using graphic art tools that I have.

Changes to Title Animation

I had recently spoken with my team and one pointed out a mistake on my titles.

In the beginning, I had put the title of ‘Sketch Up’ when it was meant to be ‘Issues’. So I had to change the text and render the sequence again.

Mistakes like this can prove difficult to satisfy the client because the title is so important, especially the name of the short film, because it could mislead the audience.

Field Trip

I went on a field trip with my course group to Leicester last week. We visited the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre where the Battle of Bosworth happened in 1485.
This was like a museum as there were a lot of artefacts and pictures, as well as videos of actors explaining what the lives were like at the time.

After that, we visited Richard III Visitor Centre, where Richard was found under a car park. The centre was built over it to represent Richard. As it is more of a centre, it doesn’t have much of artefacts but it was more of what happened at the time Richard was found buried. I found the centre particularly interesting because of what it had in the venue. Downstairs was more of history about Richard the Third, and upstairs contained information about the project of finding Richard III.

The point of this trip was that Richard III Centre is related to the assignment in January 2016, so it was ideal that we visited the centre to learn more about the place itself so we could prepare for what we will be doing after Christmas. All I know for sure is that the assignment will be like a marketing project – promotional video, branding and market research.

I took many photographs of both locations and also put together a video of my time at these places… With a bit of silliness from Emily!

Photoshop – Derry’s Interview

As we had a filming session last Thursday, I was the photographer in this session and it was my responsibility that I edit the selected photos for any corrections; brightness, contrast, colour balance, vibrance, etc.

Using Quick Mask

Using Quick Mask

So far, I’ve edited three photos and at the beginning I was already struggling because I wasn’t sure on how to edit these photos, like what should the results look like? Should there be any particular effects or just simple corrections?
So, I went for simple corrections and look for second opinions from my team.

I was mainly using Quick Mask to adjust settings in the foreground and background; blurring the background to make foreground stand out. Increasing the vibrance to soften the colours and still stand out, and sharpening it so that the foreground is quite strongly standing out. Overall, I adjusted the settings of brightness so the photo doesn’t look so dull, and increased contrast a little but not too strong.

Filming Derry and Actors

We finally filmed Derry and his actors last Thursday. I have to say, the session went brilliantly as we managed to collect good shots of Derry and the actors in action. We also managed to interview Derry and the actors as well, so we have a lot of options in terms of editing the interview video.

Interviewing part

Interviewing part

My role in this session was a photographer. I brought my own SLR as an extra camera as the team booked out one Canon DSLR and one of the team brought his DSLR and they both were for videoing. Josh and Connal were camera operators in this session, and Chantelle took over Connal’s camera whilst he was interviewing.

My photography bit was difficult as I had to manually set the camera settings to change white balance as the photos came out more orangey, so I had to adjust white balance as well as lighting settings; this meant that when I take photos, there’s a chance that the photos may come up blurry because I was holding the camera rather using a tripod. The shutter was a bit slow due to settings, so that’s why some of the photos came blurry but I managed to get some good shots.
